Tutorial: How to virgin and transfer data from a used Mercedes Benz VGS4 722.9 7-speed TCU using the OBDSTAR X300 Classic G3 and C4-07 kit.
Supported TCU type: VGS4-0-NAG2
It is common on S-Class W222, E-Class W205 and GLC 2166 from 2014 onwards.
For original TCU, data can be read and written directly on bench mode or OBD mode.
However for used ECUs, you need to drill holes and perform data vrigin and wriring with C4-07 adapter kit in Jtag mode.
Tools required:
OBDSTAR X300 Classic G3 with ECU flasher license (Only with G3)
MP001 Programmer
OBDSTAR TCM-012 Benz VGS adapter
Power supply
Handheld electric drill
22mm custom drill head
Converter V2
Mark pen
Tweezers
Procedure:
Select ECU Flasher software- TCM- Latest version.
Quick search VGS4 and select MB Benz Siemens/Continental VGS4-0-NAG2 TCM.
Select Jtag mode with MP001.
Tap Guide and read the warning reminder, function introduction, and instructions carefully.
Now connect adapters with VGS4 gearbox.
The C4-06-02 custom positioning board facilitates accurate drilling.
Place the C4-06-2 custom positioning board on the TCU and use a marker pen to mark where to drill.
Reminder:
After removing the positioning board, you can pre-make a hole with a soldering iron to prevent slipping during drilling.
Carefully drill using the prepared electric drill and standard drill head, being cautious not to drill too deep.
After drilling, gently pry open the component with tweezers.
Blow out and remove larger debris that has fallen into the hole.
Use a soft wooden stick or similar tool to clear away the adhesive layer over the gold fingers area, exposing the gold fingers, and remove any debris within this area.
The C4-07-01 soldering-free board allows for easy reading and writing without soldering.
Align the C4-07-01 soldering free board within the 3 locating pins on the board, insert it and push it in firmly to lock securely, ensuring a stable installation.
Plug the MP001 programmer's connector into the C4 interface on the adapter.
Plug the TCM-012 bench dedicated cable into the programmer's interface.
Connect power supply to MP001 programmer.
After connection, proceed with virgin (renew) and data transfer.
Read TCM information.
You can see it has been personalized and activated.
Hit Connect and connect with TCM.
Hit Read data.
Read original TCM data from the vehicle and save it under a default name as a backup.
Erase the original data form the used TCM (including VIN).
and confirm virgin is completed.
You can see no history VIN and current VIN. Virgin VGS4 TCU successfully.
After virgin (renew) TCM, we can read the original vehicle TCM and write it to this second-hand TCM, then install it in the vehicle and use it directly.
You can also install it directly in the vehicle after erasing and use MB sTAR diagnostic scanner to program to car.
To transfer data, select the data, transfer it to your desired location, seal the hole, install it in the vehicle, and then start the vehicle normally.
