OBDSTAR X300 Classic G3 vs Autel IM608

 Autel MaxiIM IM608 and OBDSTAR X300 Classic G3 which is better?   Here we show the comparison between two devices.

But you have to understand no tool is perfect and when you are choosing your tool you got to understand the capabilities and also the limitations .

 

1. Motorcycles
The G3 also does motorcycles and aquatic Vehicles as well. 

The G3 comes with the motorcycles cables so you get all these cables for Ducati,Yamaha, Harley, BMW, Honda motors etc. You’ll be able to program all these vehicles with the OBDstar.

Autel does not have it. It does not do motorcycles and aquatic vehicles.

 

 

2. Gateway

The G3 has built-in FCA Chrysler Fiat, Renault and CAN FD gateway connectors, you don’t need to buy separate gateway adapters.

G3 allows you to connect to Dodge Jeep Chrysler works excellent directly into the gateway like that bypass the gateway.  It’s excellent feature.

 

 

3. Immobilizer

We are going to start with the Immobilizer section. That’s the main things of these two tools.

G3 is for immo and programming.   Autel has been on the market for many years before the G3. G3 is a new products and we would say the database is a bit more robust on the outside.

 

For example:

Program 2016/2017 Toyota Camry, the key just fine but when into the remote programming it did not work under Camry menu. In fact it is capable of doing it but it most likely has to do with the market difference from Asian market to the US market, you can program the remote function under the GT86 Toyota and that’s cable to program the remote just fine.

But under directly under Toyota Camry it did not work.

 

OBDSTAR is going to out the R & D behind it and add all the vehicles we need to get supported.

You can see the list of all the vehicles supported uh on the immobilizer side and it is pretty good. Another thing is that OBDSTAR has no mercedes support yet, OBDSTAR said they are working on it. That’s another difference.

IM608 has good coverage with out being excellent. IM608 not only program the keys, but is an excellent scanner and can program a other units like ELV, dashboard, EZS, Skin, ECU.

 

 

4. Add-on function

OBDSTAR G3 is a flagship device you can add on all the other features.  You can add odometer correction, airbag reset, test platform and ECU cloning license to the G3.

Let’s go to the advanced ECU.  G3 can add on the same feature to clone as dc706. If you go here to Advanced ECU this is something this is where this tool starts to blow away everything else.

There is no competition to be honest.

ECU license allows you to write the PIN to it, you can also write the VIN, change the VIN number and correct mileage for some ECUs, G3 can do immo off on certain ecms.

You can reset the VIN on the radio you see that so if you get a used radio and then it gives you VIN locked that you can reset it.

When go to the ECU flasher if you add on the cloning function, it handles different modules as well body control modules. You can clone them and once you enter into these modules you can read
them and mofiye the untis.
They are good on GM ACDelco ECUs, it also does Fiat IAW 9DF, Chrysler GPEC2/3/2A, Hyundai SIM2-50 etc.
They have very good nice wiring diagram pictures. I like the quality of the images.

The test platform function allow you to do is to actually send the message over the CAN BUS network and actually turn that cluster on or active different modules like that are activated via messages and not just simple powers and ground.

Autel IM608 cannot do these things.  All these feature are not available on the Autel side. 

 

 

5. Update.

OBDSTAR they’re adding every month you’re going to be seeing changes more units more Vehicles being added.

 

If your subscription expires, OBDSTAR G3 will still work the options you have still work but you will not get updates. 

If your subscription expires, functions that requires online access will not working on IM608, for example Mercedes online password calculation, you cannot get new updated neither.

Of course you will need to renew your subscription to get current updates on both tools.

G3 subscription is cheaper than Autel.

 

 

6. Chips & MCUs

Another thing is the database on the amount of actual chips that OBDSTAR supported is not very extensive at the moment.

This is a new tool. This is being added on the monthly things. Autel has a much larger database of chips and mcus. Autel has a bigger database to that then the G3.

It can read and write a lots of chips and mcus with the XP400 pro programmer.

 

 

7. Diagnostics

Autel IM608 is not just a immo programming tool, it is also a full-fledged scanner. 

Autel im608 does have a full-fledged diagnostic tool built in so it does take advantage on that.  It has very good diagnostic capabilities and covers the Euro/Asian/US & Australian markets very well.

G3 is not a full-fledged scanner.

 

 

 

8. Remote Keys

Autel IM608 will also generate Autel universal ikey remotes. OBDSTAR does not generate remotes.

 

 

In sum:They both do the immobilizer function. The difference is the database. It is a lot more extensive on the Autel IM608. IM608 beats this tool on IMMO!

Obdstar G3 is a very good compliment to the Autel. You can grab the Obdstar every time is late model Dodge Ram. 23-24. Autel takes a long time to pull the pin and failed to program keys. The Obdstar pulls pin in seconds and programs the keys very fast as well. OBDSTAR has no mercedes support yet,they are working on it.

Program Renault Captur II 2019- AKL by OBDSTAR or Autel

 Renault captur 2 2021 4A smart card (AES chip proximity card) all keys lost can be done?? What device to use?

 

OBDSTAR: Yes 

OBDSTAR engineer confirmed x300 dp plus/x300 pro4 will add key and do all keys lost for Captur II 2019-.

Update Renault version to latest.

You may need Renault gateway adapter to bypass pin.

Battery support on.

Used adapter and stable internet.

With Key Master DP / DP Plus, Captur makes flash reading and writing after 2015 while making a key. The device will tell you the procedure you need to follow. With the new version, all keys lost in Clio 4, Captur, Megane 4, Kadjar etc. have been added. This feature is currently not attached to any device (Abrites, Zedfull etc.).

Flash says you need to remove the key after reading and writing, then you need to insert the same key again. If you insert a different key, an error occurs. After getting an error, start the process all over again. This time it will not read flash. Because you’ve done it before. You should start processing with the new key. The result will be successful.

 

 

 

Autel: 

Autel MaxiIM IM508/IM608/IM608Pro will only add key (blade and smart) for captur 2 2019-, cannot do all keys lost.

For some models, the gateway must be unlocked for the execution of the function.
Gateway unlocking is not directly related to PIN reading.

For a small number of models, PIN code reading may fail. In this case, you can ask a third party to verify the PIN code to complete learning.

 

There are two ways to unlock the gateway.

Auto unlock via OBD (this is chargeable. You may need to redo the payment after learning failure) and manual unlocking (a dedicated gateway connector is required).

If the auto lock via OBD fails, you will enter the manual unlock process. You can unlock it manually by referring to the user guide.

 

Here is an example of add a spare key to Renault Captur 2 2020.

Function requires network connection.

Select Renault-> Auto Selection-> Detect VIN->Smart Key

With Renault Bypass Cable ADC2017 you can program Captur II all keys lost.

The bypass cable allows locksmiths to programme safely new proximity keys for the
Renault* Clio V, Captur II and Zoë models from 2019 onwards.
The cable connects the Smart Pro directly to the vehicle’s Body Control Module (BCM) bypassing the secure gateway module. The two 40 pin connectors, male and female,
plug directly into the BCM whilst the two 16 pin connectors are used to connect the Smart Pro to the vehicle OBD if power is needed.

OBDSTAR X300 DP Plus Add Key Renault Trafic 2017

 Does OBDSTAR X300 DP Plus do Renault trafic 2017 keyless card all keys lost situation?

 

Impossible all keys lost. Obdstar works on Megane 4, Talisman, Scenic 4 etc all keys lost, but not for Renault traffic unless you use another machine.

Renault Trafic 07.2017 ID49 4A new spare keyless card smart key is done by OBDSTAR X300 DP Plus software V31.22 via OBD.

 

Preparation:

The function requires network connection.

The green Renault gateway converter is required.

Here is an example on adding a spare key.  The customer had a working key, I made a second key only.

 

 

Procedure:

1). Read Pflash

In X300 DP plus, go to Renault/Dacia- software V32.22- Manual Select Model- Renault- Trafic- 2014 up-

Read immo information

OBDSTAR detects 2 keys exists

Read the programming prompts

Turn on emergency fash, turn off the ignition switch
Turn on ignition with a working key

Read pflash

Save flash data

Obdstar x300dp plus will ask if the current model is a post-2018 model, press Esc

2) Read Password 

communication with vehicle and loggin

turn on ignition with working key

Erase and write flash, don disconnect device from vehicle

Read 32-digit password success

 

3) Program keys

the function will erase all keys.  maximum 4 keys can be programmed.
remote is automatically generated after key programming is completed
turn ignition on
turn ignition off

enter 32-digit pin to continue
insert a working key to turn on the ignition
program 1st key success

insert a new key to be programmed and turn on the ignition
2 keys programmed

turn off the ignition switch to complete programming

2 keys have been programmed successfully

Test new keys.

 

What tools can do Renault Trafic 2014- all keys lost?

Autel IM508/IM608

Autel and Xtool is good for Renault smart card.

Review 1:

Renault Trafic 2020 all keys lost success with im608. Blade key, 10mins job with external power.
Checking (reading) flash, read pin 32 digits, programming key, all in 10min. Choose option 1 fast reading and programming. Autel 608 give 3 option.

2019 Renault Traffic 4A chip

Took about 25 minutes to read Pflash Data and extract the mega long pin code

3:

2016 Renault traffic completed. Took 3.5 hours to read p flash and then re-load for the security code. After that took 1 minute to load keys. Used an aftermarket remote. Had 2 options for pflash. I chose from vehicle. All good.

Xtool can only read PIN and add key Trafic pre-2014 only.

1) OBDSTAR is very good. works very well really is very good for the price. I have both obdstar and xtool pad2. ObdStar is superior. It works very well on fiat renault bmw and other brands that are not easy to work with another tool.

I got the xtool pro pad it works well on cars like newer GMs and Hyundai and Chrysler most fords. Obdstar x300 strictly for Honda Toyota keys and Nissan. And lastly the old t300 for older Fords with the 4c keys. I’m thinking of getting the us version of lonstor.

AutoProPad, hands down. Its software is designed specifically for the US market.

I’m loving my IM608, the tool not only program the keys, but is an excellent scanner and can program a other units like ELV, dashboard, EZS, Skin, ECU. There is issues, like any other tool, but I think nowadays is the best option in the market.

IM608 has good coverage with out being excellent. right now maybe not the best of the best. but autel is a beast of a company. they will deliver and the updates will never stop if you pay and their “send log support” really works. I had 3 issues and the solved them on the next update.  Autel pretty much kill their competition on the diagnostic side of the market. so for short the companies reputation and track record of constant improvement at an affordable cost.

One my first tool was the xtool pro pad. its an ok tool but I am not impressed, I looked at the obdstar and looks very similar to the pro pad, thus I am assuming would be a little bit different but not by much. I good friend of mine has the obdstar. I have programmed like two keys and have not use the tool that much to say if its a good or not.

Auro originally didn’t focused on a lot of European cars and pushed massively for the American market. But over the past year Autel has taken the im range a long way and their development has been very quick. Our technicians get their im608 out ahead of other tools like AVDI and smartpro on most occasions as it’s easier & quicker. Now you can buy the cheaper im508 with the xp400 adapter. It’s actually a very competitive price and a competitive update fee. When we first started selling the Autel we told them to focus on ford which they did. I believe over the coming 12 months it will be one of the best tools on the market with the most comprehensive coverage (of newer vehicles).

Obdstar is definitely the first choice based on price and coverage. I have them all, auro seem to promise the world but don’t deliver quick enough so far behind on European market. Xtool is good and a decent complementary tool. I spent so much time in shenzhen with each of the manufacturers and have been offered distribution on all 3 but obdstar is the tool of choice!

I do have APP tech support is the best. Quick response and they will email you if you’ve done it..that’s amazing!
Cons about the tools the diag side is not that good specially on nissan is crap.
IM608 i just bought it. yesterday excellent on diag side 99% same on dealer scan tool (coz i have dealers scan tool as well.)

Definitely x300dp plus and then when you can get a smartpro, I still favor the x300 for speed and weight over my smartpro for some makes.

I’ve used x300 dp plus immo package works great for usa cars can pull pincodes from chevy dodge etc Also other Chinese brands such as geely Jac MG and the rest Renault Dacia vw some models but what I heard and see im608 powerful but expensive.

In sum,

to be fair, x300 dp plus is much accurate in the European market, maybe marketing plan not such good but , after testing is really much better , regardless the price which is also much lower than im608 and update fee also cheaper.
