Tools required:

OBDSTAR DC706

OBDSTAR P003/P003+/MP001 programmer

Select Hyundai KEFICO CPEGP3.20.1 C277TP ECU

Bench mode with P003 or MP001

Check bench mode wiring diagram.

Connect P003+ adapter with ECU and DC706.

Connect ECU.

Read MAPS. 

It also write MAPS data without problem.

I’ll walk through my experience reading and cloning a Denso MT 22.1 ECU using the Obdstar DC706 tool. This process involves bench reading, VIN writing, and troubleshooting common issues—helpful for locksmiths, mechanics, and automotive enthusiasts.

Step-by-Step Process

1. Connecting to the ECU

• The Denso MT 22.1 ECU was initially attempted with Xhorse Multi prog, but it required boot mode, which was unnecessary with the Obdstar DC706.

• Using a K-line connection, the Obdstar successfully established communication with the ECU.

2. Reading the ECU Data

• The reading process was slow due to the K-line protocol but stable.

• The tool first writes a bootloader before extracting the flash data, ensuring compatibility.

• A key advantage of the Obdstar DC706 is its ability to read and write VINs, useful for virgin ECUs or replacements.

3. Handling a Virgin (New) ECU

• The new ECU had no pre-written VIN, so the plan was:

  1. Read and save the flash data for future use.

  2. Write the correct VIN if the original ECU couldn’t be read.

• Avoiding physical opening (desoldering) was preferred to preserve the ECU’s integrity.

4. Troubleshooting and Next Steps

• If the original ECU couldn’t be read via bench mode, boot mode (desoldering) would be the fallback.

• The saved flash data from the new ECU could be reused for future cloning jobs.

Key Observations

Obdstar DC706 Benefits:

• Works without opening the ECU (bench mode).

• Allows VIN writing, essential for new or replacement ECUs.

• More user-friendly than Multiprog for this application.

Challenges:

• Slow reading speed due to K-line communication.

• Boot mode may still be needed for problematic ECUs.

OBDSTAR G3 Adds 2020 Renault Captur II Smart Key via OBD

 Adding a new smart key card to a Renault Kaptur 2020 using the OBDSTAR X300 Classic G3 tool is a detailed process that requires careful execution. Below is a step-by-step guide based on a real-world procedure, including important tips during the process.

Tools required:

OBDSTAR X300 Classic G3
Xhorse blank XS series smart key
16+32 Gateway bypass adapter

Step 1: Accessing the Gateway Module

The gateway module (gate) must be accessed to bypass the vehicle’s security system. According to the manual, it is located under the dashboard, but in this case, it was found behind the multimedia unit.

Steps to Access the Gateway:

1. Remove the glove compartment and surrounding plastic panels.

2. Detach decorative trims, which may be secured by bolts hidden beneath them.

3. Loosen (or remove) the multimedia unit to reach the gateway, located at the top behind it.

Step 2: Connecting the OBDSTAR G3 Tool

Once the gateway is accessible:

1. Use a 16+32 adapter to connect the gateway’s 32-pin connector.

2. Ensure the CAN lines are fully accessible for direct communication.

3. Connect an external power source to prevent voltage drops during programming. External power is critical to avoid interruptions.

Step 3: Programming the Key

Select Renault in the OBDSTAR menu.

The tool automatically detects the model (Renault Captur) and retrieves the VIN.

Select the proximity key- Add key (free pincode).

OBDSTAR G3 asks to connect Nissan/Renault 16+32 adapter to bypass gateway.  Check connection instructions.

HFM was virgin after reading the pin code, all the keys were erased. If the pin was calculated incorrectly, then only the dealer

Configuring the system.  This step takes about 6 minutes as the system bypasses security protocols.

The tool reads the flash memory and calculates the PIN in real time.

Calculate 28-digit PIN Code successfully.

Turn off the ignition, engage the parking brake, and activate hazard lights.

Generate dealer key.

Put the new key in the key sensing coil. The coil is between the seats next to the cup holder.

Make dealer key successfully.

It says current key program failed. Don’t worry. Try again.

Go to to Add key (free pincode) and try again.

After all keys have been verified, don’t exit.

Remove the dedicated Nissan/Renault 16+32 connector and restore the gateway module.

Connect the OBDSTAR G3 to the vehicle via OBD connector and turn on the ignition.

Program success.

Read immo status.

Check the immobilizer memory to confirm key registration.

Both new and original keys should start the vehicle.

 

Common Issues and Solutions

• Failed Key Programming:

  • If the original key fails to program, try adding a new key first, then reprogram the original.

  • Ensure the transponder is correctly placed in the reader.

• Incorrect Key Count Display:

  • The immobilizer may show incorrect key counts. Verify functionality by testing each key.

• Alternative Method (HFM Direct Access):

  • If the gateway is hard to reach, the HFM module (located near the dashboard) can sometimes be used to extract the PIN directly.  Direct reading pin from HFM dump is better, in case of complete loss and failure without isk data you won’t be able to prepare the card. The task will be with two unknowns, no card and empty hfm. The dealer does not send cards prepared for the car. You can take isk data from the server, but the procedure will require a prepared card.

OBDSTAR G3 Read Nissan Sentra B18 PIN Code via HFM Dump

 OBDSTAR will add smart key to Nissan Sentra/Rogue 2021- without pin code. But if all keys have lost, it will ask for 28-digit pin code.

OBDSTAR G3 will calculate pin code from HFM (hands-free module) dump using the new RH850/V850 adapter kit.

Remove hands-free module HFM above the glove compartment. Here is the tip to remove the HFM module from car.

Go to Nissan IMMO software and navigate to 28 digital pincode function.
There are two types of IMMO systems,
Type 1 (B18)
Type 2 (T33)

OBDSTAR supports pin code reading via HFM dump and write HFM coding functions for both B18 and T33 chassis.

Here is a 2023 Nissan Sentra B18 model.

Select Type 1 (B18).
Select Read PinCode (C4-06) function.
Select processor type: R7F7010193.

Device will ask to connect MP001 programmer with OBDSTAR G3.
Hit “Guide” to check instructions and wiring diagrams.

Disassemble the HFM module.

Connect C4-06 adapter to HFM module and MP001 programmer according to the wiring diagram.
Don’t forget to connect 12V power supply to MP001 programmer.

Connecting to MCU and start reading data.

Read 28-digit pin code successfully.

Then you can go “all keys lost (via loaded data)” to learn key with the pin code.
